Biography
Karyn Denten is a fine art painter whose work spans the worlds of design and expressive art. Originally from the Midwest, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications before launching her career at a boutique agency in Newport Beach, CA.
After returning to Chicago, Karyn balanced her design career with her passion for painting. During this time, she created the Pink Horizons series, inspired by the landscape seen on her daily Metra commute.
The horizon symbolizes her belief that, even amid the everyday grit and grind, it’s always worth pursuing a dream. Karyn’s marks and brush strokes represent the bold, messy leaps we take towards our goals, while the color blocks capture those quiet moments of contentment along the way.
Her mission with her art is to inspire people to pursue their goals and dreams, and add a touch of beauty to their everyday lives.
Karyn has been exhibiting her art at galleries, art shows and through Minted and West Elm. Her work has also been featured in Real Simple Home.
Karyn is a mom of two artists — a photographer and an illustrator. She currently lives outside of Chicago with her husband and her son’s rescue dog, Kai.
Artist Statement
Working as creative director, my commute on the Metra into the city of Chicago was the biggest influence for my paintings. The mood on the train was quite dreary and I began to wonder how many people actually liked the jobs they were holding. Each day, seeing everyone buried in their phones, I thought there has got to be something more. I made it a point to look out the window and watch the urban landscape go by. This sparked the idea for a series of paintings, PINK HORIZONS.
The horizon symbolizes the future, potential, and unexplored opportunities. It’s a reminder that even within the routine and monotony of daily life, to keep sight of your aspirations.
